Apple Maps Makes Its Web Launches in Public Beta

Apple has officially launched Apple Maps on the web, marking a significant step for the tech giant as it expands its mapping services beyond its ecosystem. The new web-based platform is currently in public beta, offering users a range of features previously exclusive to Apple devices.

With Apple Maps on the web, users can now access driving and walking directions, search for businesses and points of interest, explore curated Guides, and view detailed place information directly from their web browser. The platform is compatible with Safari and Chrome on Mac and iPad, as well as Chrome and Edge on Windows PCs.

This move brings Apple Maps into direct competition with Google Maps, which has long dominated the web mapping market. While the web version is still in beta, Apple promises to introduce additional features, including the popular Look Around immersive view, in the coming months.

The expansion of Apple Maps to the web also benefits developers using MapKit JS, allowing them to link out to the web version for richer user experiences. This could lead to more robust mapping integrations across various platforms and applications.

While the initial launch focuses on the English language and limited browser support, Apple has indicated plans to expand availability to more languages, browsers, and platforms in the future.

The introduction of Apple Maps on the web signifies a major step forward for the company and could potentially reshape the online mapping landscape.
